Seasonal Resident started in Port Carling as a store for the people who make Muskoka their summer: visitors, locals and cottagers. Over a few seasons it grew from a multi-brand shop into a label of its own, with loungewear, swim and weekend pieces made in Canada, and a second store on Nantucket's Old South Wharf. Mutual Friends rebuilt the brand to carry it there, designed merch graphics for its collections, then designed and built its websites on both sides of the border.
The brand had outgrown its first look. A rushed logo, too many fonts and colours, and a different illustrator for every drop made it feel pieced together, and Muskoka was doing all the work. We built a system that travels: a bold wordmark in stacked and horizontal lockups, an SR monogram, an oval badge carrying the line "For lifestyles of recreation and leisure", and a set of stamps (a mallard, a pair of trout) signed "For the weekend". Big Apple red, Sunrise yellow and True Navy lead, with Duck Orange and a forest green held back for promotion.
The website had to put Seasonal Resident's own product first and still sell the designer labels the stores are known for, from Malbon to Splits59. We planned the Shopify build around that split: Shop, Our Brand and Designers each get their own mega menu, the brand's capsules (Cottage Cowboy, Canadian Cowboy, Port of Leisure, Silver Stream Farms) get a home, and the brand's own photography leads every page.
It runs as two storefronts, seasonalresident.ca in Canadian dollars and seasonalresident.com in US dollars for Nantucket and the US market, each carrying around 250 products from 25 or more brands. Development was with our Shopify partner Markloops, including an embroidery customizer that lets shoppers add a patch or script to any SR piece.
